Are you Team Sushi or Team Samgyup?

This quarantine period is bringing out the creativity in terms of culinary adventures that we have yet to explore. Local businesses and home-bound foodies introduced these baked faves that started the food craze around Metro Clark but which one makes you drool the most?

The sushi bake (or baked sushi) first rose to popularity amid quarantine and the hype hasn’t stopped since. It’s basically a deconstructed sushi, without the rolled imagery, it’s main ingredients are slices of sushi (salmon, tuna, kani, or even spam) coated in a spicy, tangy sauce atop a bed of Japanese rice, which is then baked in the oven. To enjoy it, you have to scoop out a portion of the dish and wrap it in a small nori sheet like a mini taco. Yum!

And then the avid samgyupsal fans asked for more! This is where the samgyup bake (or baked samgyupsal) came in. It is an all-in-one unique take on the popular samgyupsal – pork belly (samgyup) or beef belly (woo samgyup) slices and cheese sauce atop rice (usually kimchi fried rice), baked in the oven and then served with nori sheets where you also have to scoop out a serving.

If you haven’t made your mind up yet, we know it’s a hard decision, why not try both?

In the meantime, stay tuned as we introduce local shops where you can find these delicious baked specials. Soon!
