NCC Athletics Stadium shortlisted at World Architecture Fest

The New Clark City Athletics Stadium is now shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival as one of the best in the world.

A centerpiece of the 30th Southeast Asian Games held in 2019, it’s nominated for the Sport-Completed Buildings category for the said architectural festival, set to take place at the FIL Exhibition Center in Lisbon, Portugal, from December 1 to 3 this 2021.

Vince Dizon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and Royal Pineda, Principal architect and CEO of Budji+Royal Architecture + Design, shared that they were excited with the nomination.

The World Architecture Festival, now in its 13th year, aims to showcase and celebrate the best in the field of architecture by giving honors to the best and the most innovative in the world.

Completed on October 12, 2019, the iconic Mount Pinatubo inspired the open-air stadium’s design. The ringed roofline resembles the volcano’s crater, while its posts and façade are made from lahar or volcanic debris.

The stadium made headlines in 2019, not only as a venue for the games but also for the controversial cauldron worth ₱55.92 million that caused much ire from the public.
