CLARK, PAMPANGA — The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is keen on resuming the Philippine Cup in Pampanga this month after a hiatus due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila.
The league’s proposal is currently in progress to request approval from the local government, specifically, Pampanga governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda.
PBA eyes the cities of Angeles, San Fernando, and the municipality of Bacolor for their practice sites. At the same time, involved teams are currently working on completing their respective acceptance certifications from hotels and accommodations.
The PBA committee plans to pitch camps similar to last year’s set-up until Metro Manila’s risk level decreases. Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro stressed that the PBA would most likely stay in Pampanga for a while. The tournament schedule was compressed to meet the October deadline for the all-Filipino showcase.
The league is expected to commence in the last week of the month, following the clearance by the end of the week. If Pampanga encounters a spike in infections, the league considers another relocation.
