Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) partnered with Angeles City Veterinary Office for a trap-neuter-release (TNR) project this week.
Beginning with 15 stray cats found wandering around the corporate office building premises, the initiative is geared towards their population control and the animals’ well being.
According to Irish Calaguas, CIAC vice president for operations, who initiated the week-long project, there’s an alarming increase of stray cats sighted at the CIAC grounds
“We want to make sure that they are healthy and will not pose a threat to employees and stakeholders. This (project) is to promote human health and safety as well as animal welfare,” Calaguas pointed out.
Calaguas, an animal lover and rescuer, added the captured cats will be spayed or neutered. Ear tipping will also be administered which is a common sign in identifying neutered cats.
The security staff, headed by Rey Nanquil, are instructed to conduct an inventory of the stray cats, while ensuring an environment where these animals remain strays but will not be harmed and will survive.
A licensed veterinarian will administer the spaying or neutering of the animals and will be given an anti-rabies vaccination before being returned to the CIAC grounds.
Meanwhile, retired Gen. Aaron Aquino, CIAC president, thanked the local government unit of Angeles City headed by Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. and the City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Christian Arcilla for the assistance extended to the CIAC.
