Google pays tribute to Pinay artist Pacita Abad with a doodle

The tech giant Google pays a tribute to a second Filipino artist this month, the current homepage logo of Google has swapped out with a colorful doodle of the late visual artist Pacita Abad.

The first artist featured in the Google doodle was the King of Comedy, Dolphy.

This time, it is Pacita Abad who made history as the first woman to be given the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award.

“Today, her colorful legacy resonates in collections in over 70 countries. Thank you, Pacita Abad, for painting the picture of a brighter tomorrow!” Google said.

Abad was born in Basco, Batanes and an internationally-acclaimed painter whose works have been shown in more than 200 exhibition halls around the world.

She’s first Filipino artist to have her works of art exhibited at the Franz Bader Gallery in Washington DC.

Abad was able to make more than 4,500 artworks in her over 30-year career as a painter. Abad is most known for her “mixed media painted textile collages, abstract assemblages, and trapunto paintings.” and her most known trapunto artworks was “Caught at the border (1991).”

Abad passed away in December 2004 in Singapore due to cancer.
