Casa Tigre: An Artists Hub in Angeles City

Tucked in a lot at the corner of Jesus Extension and General Ricarte Street, this quaint resto-pub has a little something for everybody– beverage range from milkshakes, coffee (try their magnum affogato), cocktails and beer plus comfort foods like pancakes and waffles, chips and salsa, chicken burgers and mouth-watering sandwiches. But apart from food and drinks, many patrons go to it because it has this “artsy-chill-out” ambience and homey vibe.

And according to the owner, Francesco Denaro, that’s basically the idea!

“Ever since we opened, we’ve always wanted to keep it that way, you might find yourself wandering around the city late at night and have nowhere to go. We’re pretty sure you will find new friends or someone to talk to once you get here” he said. Various people from different walks of life come and visit. They dine-in, and find themselves conversing with other people they barely know. A simple meal here can suddenly become a family.

“After all, mi casa, es tu casa! (my house is your house)” he added.

Frequent goers, mostly local artists like musicians, rappers, spoken word poets and visual artists from Angeles and neighboring towns, consider the Casa as a creative hub. A place where they can all commune and talk about arts, society and the like.

“It’s a place for creatives. The most common problem for artists is losing their creative juices,

procrastinating or losing interest. We want artists or even just normal people to let go of their unwanted thoughts, have some time to breathe and to find inspiration over the little things.” affirmed Denaro.

Now this does not mean the place is exclusive. In fact, Denaro shares that ever since they opened the place, gentlemen aged over 60 go there, vibing their music; parents bring kids for waffles while they enjoy the fancy bruschettas, and teenagers going either to study or to get Instagram worthy photos with the arresting murals on the walls.

Despite the pandemic, Casa Tigre braves the challenge of providing a special and safe space for people looking for good food we crave, good conversations we’ve missed and remedy from the long isolation of the past months.
